What’s in a name?

Jim Iacono: A man of integrity, strength, honor and compassion. He was the definition of a true gentleman. Living by a code of ethics that is difficult to come by in todays world. He enjoyed people of all backgrounds and respected each person and their individual journey and success. Always there  for every one of us and was always available for support and a kind word. The definition of a person you wanted to be with or get to know better…

James L. Iacono (Jim) was born in August of 1943 and raised in Malden Massachusetts. He attended Malden Public Schools, upon graduation he enlisted and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, achieving the rank of staff sergeant in the 4th Marine Division.

Growing up in the Edgeworth section of Malden he was part of a close knit Italian family including his older brother and twin sister. He was always involved in sports, participating in Hockey and as standout baseball player later honing his skills on the softball field.

Jim moved his family to Lynnfield in 1972. Here he planted deep roots within the community and raised his kids; Jimmy and Jill. He watched both of his children go through the Lynnfield school system and participate in sports from ice hockey to field hockey and cheerleading to baseball. All while continuing his successful 42 year career at Mystic Valley Gas, Boston Gas and finally Keyspan.

He was a fixture of the Lynnfield community for over 30 years until moving to Boxford then settling in Ipswich. He was wholly dedicated to his family and friends. His family includes 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was an active grandparent, always supporting the activities of his grandchildren, from hockey and baseball games to dance recitals and everything in between. His pride extended through to his nieces and nephews. One of his favorite things in life was to be surrounded by his family.  He was engaged with his friends on a daily basis whether they were from elementary school or as recent as the summer of 2022.

His kind and loving spirit always welcomed everyone. Guests to his home would immediately receive a welcoming smile and a bottle of water. Once you met him, you were a friend for life..

As an avid Red Sox fan, he loved scouting the team’s preseason in Florida with his brother, George.

His passion for life was enhanced by his wife of 22 years Rosalie. They loved their trips to Italy. Whether a simple walk on the beach on the coast of Maine or just a beautiful dinner out, he always wanted to explore, learn and laugh with her.

He departed unexpectedly in late August of 2022 joining Lucille and Louis; his parents, and settling in for some Grapa with friend Johnny and Brother in law Frank.

He lived a beautiful life and left us all better people.
