Our 2024 Jim Iacono Memorial Scholarship Recipient:
Brendan Sokop
Brendan Sokop is a notable Pioneer recognized for his hard work in the class room, his dedication to the LHS sports program, and contributions to his community from Leukemia research fundraising and beyond. As a sophomore he came up with a plan to aid Ukranians struggling to survive the Russian military invasion. Aligning with a Boston-area Ukrainian church and the Sunflower of Peace organization, Sokop developed and organized a successful grassroots campaign soliciting donations, and making a difference on the world stage.
As a student-athlete, Brendan is a standout soccer and tennis player who made significant contributions on both surfaces. He played a key role in the tennis team's success, particularly in doubles matches. His 2024 Soccer State Championship speaks volumes for his contributions on the field. Varsity soccer coach Brent Munroe had this to say in a recent letter; “His play on the field was remarkable and something we could not have won without.”
With an academic career that boasts a 4.15 G.P.A. , Brendan impressed his teachers with a consistent work ethic and an unwavering dedication to learning. His academic achievements include National Honor Society Junior and Senior Year as well as being the team leader for the Student Visionary of the Year Campaign.
Brendan will continue his education this fall as he enters his freshman year at Bentley University.
Our 2023 Jim Iacono Memorial Scholarship Recipient:
Maggie Ozanian
Maggie was chosen based on numerous accomplishments in the areas of leadership, integrity, community service and athletics. Maggie worked hard both on and off the field. When she was not leading the LHS Varsity Soccer and Basketball teams, she was interning with the school nurse, volunteering at Tufts Medical Center and raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. In addition, Maggie was also selected as the student ambassador for the Massachusetts Athletic Association.
“Maggie is a young person who will make a positive impact on her community and is an excellent role model” writes Susan Breen, LHS Varsity Basketball Coach.
“Her character, integrity and reliability are noteworthy and why she was selected to receive this scholarship.” adds Jill Mavro, Trustee for the Lynnfield Scholarship Foundation and daughter of Jim Iacono.
Maggie will be attending Providence College in the fall to study nursing.
We look forward to Maggie’s future accomplishments!
